African Drumming Workshop - Year 5

Year Five had a fun-filled afternoon learning about types of African drums, call and respond traditions, along with lots of rhythm work.

Working as a team we learnt several pieces using West African djembes. Over the course of the afternoon we learnt to play with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression. By listening with great attention to detail we were able to re-call sounds with increasing aural memory.

The afternoon accumulated in a wonderful whole class assembly, performing our new learnt skills to the entire school. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts.

A fabulous time was had by all who participated in the workshop.
